ADMISSION POLICY
I. Application
BZIS provides quality international education to children of the international communities in Beijing. According to Chinese Government regulations, international schools can only enroll students holding foreign passports or residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. However, with special approval of the Ministry of Education, BZIS is allowed to recruit children of returning Chinese scholars from overseas who hold a foreign permanent residence permit.
II. Provisions
a) Admissions Criteria
The admissions decision will be made by the Admissions Committee (comprised of teachers,
the Principal and the Admissions Director) based
on the following criteria:
Age of student*
Grades from the student’s academic record
Health condition of the student
Information gained in the interview and entrance test
Availability of space
* The cut-off date for entry to each of our grade levels
is September 1. For example, a child must be 5 by September 1 of the current year to enter Kindergarten and 6 by September 1 of the current year to enter Grade 1. In cases that the child's birth date is very close to the cut-off date and the parents feel the child should be in an upper grade level, the child will still be placed in the appropriate grade according to our admissions policy, i.e. the 'lower' grade. Children will only be moved from that grade after a period of observation and upon the recommendations of the Admissions Committee.
All placements are provisional in that they may be reviewed during the child's first month at school.
b) Class Size
The maximum class size is 20 except in Kindergarten where there is a maximum of 15 children in a class. The teacher/students ratio in BZIS is as low as 1:10 so that the student can get individual attention from the teacher.
c) Non-Native English Speakers
The level of English of all non-native speakers will be assessed to determine whether or not a child will need English As A Second Language (ESL) support.
d) Children with Special Educational Needs
BZIS operates a non-selective admissions policy
in the sense that entry is not dependent upon academic achievement. However, the school reserves the right not to offer acceptance to children with moderate to severe learning disabilities, as there are limits to the range of children to whom we can offer an appropriate educational program.
e) Immunization
In the interest of maintaining a healthy environment for our diverse student body, the following immunizations are mandatory and must be current before the student is admitted: Poliomyelitis (TOPV), Diptheria, Pertussis or Whooping Cough, Tetanus, Measles, Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis (BCG or negative mantoux test within one year prior to admission).
Refunds Policy
Registration Fee
Non-refundable under any circumstances.
Tuition Fee
Tuition fees are not generally refundable unless the tuition has been paid in full for an entire school year. Refund requests will be only considered for any unattended academic quarters. Any requests must be in writing and given to the Admissions Office at least 30 calendar days in advance of the student’s withdrawal from school. If tuition fees have not been paid for the full year, the school may honor refunds requests depending on the circumstances for the withdrawal from school.
Bus Fee
Refundable on a full monthly basis only. A written notice of application or withdrawal must be given to the Admissions Office at least 15 workdays prior to the start of a new month.
